Clients include, Ministry of Sound, Glitterbox, Saint Moritz Music Summit, Cannes Music Summit, Emerald Music Summit, GAMF Music Summit, Milan Music Expo 2015, Carwash Ibiza.
Tony Byrne is the founder of Single Minded Promotions (“SMP”) and is the leading and longest established Independent National Radio and Television Promotions Company in the United Kingdom. Established by Tony Byrne in 1984 SMP have a history of Number 1 and Top 10 successes across the single, album and Airplay Charts. SMP work with a diverse range of artists, from specialist artists who we look to cross over into the mainstream to established producers and songwriters, to superstar DJ’s and producers.
SMP’s promotion campaigns are tailored specifically to its individual clients and SMP have consulted to some of the biggest record and publishing companies in the world.
Tony is based in London and Portugal.
Andrew’s love affair with music began back in 1974 when he first started as a DJ while at school and went on to co-promote his own disco nights in the late 1970’s. Regular DJ’ing spots followed in London leading to a regular radio shows starting in 1981 with LHR, and then weekly shows for Radio Invicta, Horizon FM and Solar FM between 1982 and 1986. Between 1988 and 1990 Andrew co-owned the Streetlevel Records dance record shops in London whilst also co-promoting Streetlevel Club Events, which brought over acts from the USA for PA’s and DJ’ing, including Fast Eddie, Tyree Cooper and Doug Lazy. During this time Andrew continued to work as a Club DJ and had a twice-weekly radio show on Lazer FM.
The start of the Nineties saw Andrew make the move from playing and selling records to being involved directly in releasing records when he became a partner in Optimism Records. The first signing was Xpansions -Elevation (Move Your Body), which became a UK Pop Hit in 1990 reaching number 7, charting again in 1995 and 2002. Club nights co-promoted included the popular Obsession night in Islington.
In 1992 Andrew joined Mo’s Music Machine Record Distributors as London Van Sales Rep, and in 1993 was promoted to Head of Label and Business Affairs. During his seven years with the company he expanded the label roster from 1 to 13 labels, and set up a Music Publishing Division. Andrew was personally involved in releasing over 450 Singles across the different labels and built up a 400 song-publishing catalogue. Amongst these releases were Top 10 hits with Pianoman, DJ Misjah & Tim, as well as Top 40 Hits with TJR featuring Xavier, QFX (three times) and Marradonna. The QFX album when it was released became number one Independent album.
In 1995 Andrew established Music Publisher-Beat That Music Limited, and in 1997 set up One Step Music Ltd (“OSM”) to administrate Record Labels public performance rights (PPL). Both companies in partnership with leading industry figure Ellis Rich, CEO of Independent Music Group. Two years later Andrew became Director of A&R at Independent Music Group now Supreme Songs Limited (“SSL”). Andrew still maintains his roles with OSM and SSL.
Between 2000 and the present day Andrew has pursued other activities including producing remixes for DMC with DJ Face as The Thieving Hoodlums. Producing events at The National Hotel in Miami during Winter Music Conference for the likes of Defected Records, Hed Kandi, Southern Fried Records, Positiva Records, suSU/Single Minded Promotions and BMI, and managing hit recording acts Space Cowboy between 2001-2003 and Soul Central from 2004-2009.
In 2005 Andy established a business affairs consultancy with Defected Records leading to his appointment as Consultant Business Affairs Manager (2006-2014), and also in 2006 formed Performer Rights administrator Goldman Bailey Ltd (“GBL”) with Richard Goldman, who as Xpansions was Andrew’s first A&R signing back in 1990. In 2015 GBL merged its Performer rights interests with Copyright Rescue Int’l to form Performance Rights Ltd. GBL continues as a boutique Music Publisher – GB Music, as well as offering Sample Clearance services to the industry.
